Our Love Story

In April 2020, as the world was thrown into chaos, many of us were trying to navigate a new reality. Meanwhile, the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha were making TikToks, spreading joy in uncertain times.

 

One day, while scrolling through Instagram, Brendan stumbled upon a video of the Fall 2017 Line of the Delta Beta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. One woman, in particular, caught Brendan’s eye. Captivated by her vibrant energy and radiant smile, he immediately sent the video to his best man, Ja’Waun Williams. Brendan asked, “Who is the third girl in the video?” Ja’Waun quickly responded with Alichia’s Instagram handle.

Intrigued, Brendan and Alichia began following each other. For the next ten months, Brendan admired Alichia from afar, liking her posts and occasionally messaging her fire emojis. He was also working on himself, striving to become a better man, worthy of Alichia's attention (Alichia and Brendan have differing opinions on what Brendan was doing during those ten months, but that’s a story for another time).

 

One day, Alichia announced on Instagram that she was celebrating landing her dream big law internship by getting her nails done.  Seeing his chance, Brendan seized the opportunity.  He messaged Alichia, congratulating her and offering to pay for her nails and take her out to dinner. Alichia, charmed by Brendan’s gesture, agreed. 

 

Two weeks later, Alichia and Brendan met for a night of tacos and laughter, discovering a shared love of margaritas, tacos, and each other—over three hours of non-stop conversation. 

 

That three-hour night marked the beginning of their life journey together.  A journey filled with walks of Lovejoy along Chicago’s Lakefront Trail, picnics at 31st St. Beach (where Brendan and Alichia would eventually get engaged), and 75-degree Christmases in San Antonio, Texas.

 

Now, after countless taco dates and shared moments, Brendan and Alichia are getting tacos and sharing laughter together for life, celebrating not just their love, but the incredible moments and people that brought them here today.
